Speaking in tongues has become a measure of Christianity; if a person is baptized with the Holy Spirit or not and this is not Biblical.
So, what are the Biblical truths of speaking in tongues?
Speaking in tongues Biblical truths
1. A gift of the Holy Spirit
Speaking in tongues is a gift of the Holy Spirit.
1 Cor 12:4: Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
Not every person has this gift. 1 Cor 12:30: Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
You cannot get the gift of speaking in tongues through a pastor or a person praying for you. Gifts of the Holy Spirit are given by Jesus Christ according to His will.
1 Cor 12:8-10: For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit. To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit. To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues.
2. Vulnerable to demonic influence
Speaking in tongues opens the door and a person becomes vulnerable to demonic influence.
As there are Angelic tongues there are demonic tongues since demons were once angels.
You may see a person speaking in tongues, thinking that s/he is being moved by the Holy Spirit while in reality, it is the demons in control.
Christians be careful, not every person who speaks in tongues speaks tongues of the Angels powered by the Holy Spirit. Satan also powers and people speak in demonic tongues.
Satan and his agents are speaking in demonic tongues to blasphemy Jesus Christ in front of congregations who cannot understand what they are saying. Instead of these Satan agents speaking a language you can understand they chose to speak in tongues so that they can blasphemy Jesus Christ without your knowledge.
This is what is happening in churches today where people are speaking in tongues, uttering words the congregation cannot understand. Satan agents, who are preachers of a false gospel, take that opportunity of speaking in tongues to blasphemy God without the congregation understanding what they are saying.
3. A sign to unbelievers not to believers
Speaking in tongues is a sign to unbelievers not to believers. 1 Cor 14:22 Thus, tongues are for a sign, not to believers, but to unbelievers.
4. Do not speak in tongues to fellow believers
Since tongues are for a sign to unbelievers not believers, do not speak in tongues to fellow believers.
5. If you speak in tongues to believers let there be an interpreter
1 Cor 14:9: So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.
If you speak in tongues in the church and to believers, you must have an interpreter or better keep silent.
1 Cor 14:27-28: If any men speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
6. No benefit to a person who cannot understand
Speaking in tongues has no benefit to people who cannot understand hat you are saying.
1 Cor 14:6: Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you….
7. Speak in tongues which exist
Yes! There are angelic tongues but when you are speaking in tongues to fellow human being, speak in tongues which exist or have an interpreter. Spare your angelic tongues to use them to speak to God alone.
1 Cor 14:10-11: There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification. Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaks a foreigner, and he that speaks shall be a foreigner unto me.
When Jesus disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit, did they speak in tongues to themselves, to God or preaching to all other tribes in Jerusalem in their native language? Were they speaking a language which the tribes of Jerusalem could not understand?
Jesus disciples spoke in the 12 languages of the 12 tribes of Israel when filled with the Holy Spirit. They did not speak in non existing tongues.
Act 2:6, 8: and at this sound, the multitude came together, and were bewildered, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And how is it that we hear each one of us in his own native language, which we were born in?
Stop speaking in tongues which do not exist in the name of speaking in tongues. I believe in angelic tongues but use them privately.
8. Builds oneself not the church
Whoever speaks in tongues in the church or to fellow believers builds or edifies oneself but not the church.
1 Cor 14:4: He who speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself, unless someone interprets, that the church may receive edified.
This is just a show off that you have this gift to speak in tongues and this is how many are doing in churches today; exhorting themselves high above others and showing off.
1 Cor 14:16-17: Else when thou shall bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupies the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understands not what thou says? For thou verily gives thanks well, but the other is not edified.
9. Spirit prays but mind is unfruitful
1 Cor 14:14: For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.
Madness in churches today
1 Cor 14:23 If the whole church assembles into one place and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that you are mad? Yes.
Churches today are full of madness being led by their so-called ‘men of God’.
Do you have to go to the church, lift your voice high shouting in the name of praying? Do you have to show off that you can speak in tongues? What does the Bible say about prayer?
You should not go to the church and speak in tongues. Praying in church in tongues is first showing off and boasting of what you have, which is not given to you to do so but a sign to unbelievers not believers. God did not give you the gift of speaking in tongues to go lift your voice high in the church praying but he gave you this gift to talk to him secretly privately.
Many people have been led to believe that praying with aloud voice speaking in tongues in the church is talking to God which is a total lie and you wonder why God does not answer.
Jesus taught prayer. Did he teach what you are doing?
Mt 6:5-6: And when you pray, you must not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Truly I say unto you, they have their reward. But you, when thou pray, go into your room, and shut the door, pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret shall reward you.
I remember one church I went to and a time came when the church members started speaking in tongues being called by their leader to do so. I just opened my eyes and watched them. Madness!
I also saw another so-called ‘man of God’ praying to people to speak in tongues.
Stop speaking in tongues in the church or to fellow believers. If you enter a church and a person, be it the preacher or all believers are speaking in tongues without an interpreter, run away.
God bless you
