One day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
2 Pet 3:8: But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
There is a big difference between God and humanity perspective of a day.
To humanity a day is an interval equal to 24 hours.
Humanity measures a day using the lights in the firmament of the heavens; the sun and the moon (day and night). God created these lights for humanity to divide the day from the night, and for days and years.
Gen 1:14: And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years
God does not need the lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night, and for days and years.
In the kingdom of heaven there is no darkness thus no night.
Rev 21:23: And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
The glory of Jesus Christ (God) is the light, the light we see.
See God is light and the sun, moon and the stars have no light on their own
Jesus Christ is the light and in Him no darkness reason in the kingdom of heaven where He reigns there is no need of sun neither the moon for light.
Rev 22:5: And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God gives them light: and they shall reign forever and ever.
He is the creator. He was before day and night, before these lights in the firmament of the heavens. He is Alpha and Omega.
Since the glory of God is light, the light we see, and in Him no darkness His perspective of a day is different from humanity perspective.
One day is with the Lord as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day
What does one day with the Lord is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day mean?
God is light. The light we see in the world is His glory (not fully revealed) and He is the one who gives the sun, moon and the stars light.
Since there is no darkness in Him and in His kingdom, a day to Him is marked neither by day nor night.
Science tells us that light moves with a speed of approximately 186,000 mi/sec (300,000 kilometers per second = 1,080,000 kilometers per hour).
Therefore since God is light, He travels with a speed of 186,000 mi/sec (300,000 kilometers per second). Reason Jesus said, ‘For as the lightning comes out of the east, and shines even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be’ (Mt 24:27).
Lightning is light and Jesus Christ is the light and He travels in the speed of light.
In one day (24 hours) light travels 1000 years.
God is this light thus one day to humanity is as a thousand years with God and a thousand years to humanity is as one day with the Lord.
Psalms 90:4: For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday
Also put it in your mind that God is limitless. He is not limited by time, speed, space, our minds, etc.
Biblical prove that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day
God said to Adam in Genesis,
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it: for in the day that you eat thereof you shall surely die (Gen 2:17)
God’s perspective of a day in this verse was according to His perspective not humanity 24 hours perspective.
He told Adam, ‘for in the day that you eat thereof you shall surely die’.
Looking at humanity perspective of a day (24 hours), Adam did not die the day He ate of the tree but He lived 930 years.
In God’s perspective of a day (1000 years), Adam died in the day he ate of the tree. 930 years are in that day.
And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died. (Gen 5:5)
From the day Adam and Eve ate of the tree, no human being has lived over a day which is 1000 years in God’s perspective. We all die in that day.
Gen 5:8: And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died.
Gen 5:11: And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years: and he died.
Gen 5:14: And all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years: and he died.
Gen 5:17: And all the days of Mahalaleel were eight hundred ninety and five years: and he died.
Gen 5:20: And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years: and he died.
Gen 5:27: And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.
Gen 5:31: And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years: and he died.
Gen 9:29: And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.
Therefore one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day
But to humanity a day is an interval equal to 24 hours.
In the Bible, when God mentions a day, He may be speaking in humanity perspective or His perspective.
One day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day may also be interpreted as;
God is neither slow nor fast in accordance to humanity
This verse reveals that God is not slow in keeping His promise as humanity understands slowness neither is He fast as humanity understands fastness but He comes at His right time.
2Peter 3:9: The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some men count slowness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
As you pray and present your requests to God, pray that His will be done not your will. His will is the best for me and you.
Using God’s perspective of a day, we are going to look at the Biblically prophesied season of the coming of Jesus Christ which proves that Christians are not in darkness (we know when Jesus Christ is coming).
One day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day
