All idols (gods) have same characteristics and using these characteristics you can know the idol or god in your life. Their characteristics are as follows;
- Idols are nothing
They are nothing and the truth about them is hidden so that their followers, worshipers or witnesses will never see nor know, for the idols not to be put in shame. Like witchcraft, the witch-doctor will never reveal or let you know the secrets or truths of witchcraft to never put her/him into shame. Isa 44:9: They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed.
- Idols are immobile; always carried.
They neither move by themselves nor are they omnipresent. They always have to be carried because they are dead and immobile. Isa 46:1, 7: Bel bows down, Nebo stoops, their idols were upon the beasts, and upon the cattle: your carriages were heavy loaded; they are a burden to the weary beast. They bear him upon the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place, and he stands from his place shall he not remove.
- Idols are a burden
Since you have always to carry them, move them from one place to another, they are a burden to you. They burden you, everyone around you, and even your animals.
- Idols do not save
You will always be carrying this idol, moving with it from one place to another, even where you place it it cannot move by itself and when you are in trouble, needing help, you cry and call your idol, it will just stare at you, with neither an answer nor save your from the trouble. Isa 46:7 …one shall cry unto him, yet can he not answer, nor save him out of his trouble.
- Idols do not give man satisfaction
If you have an idol, that idol never gives you satisfaction but you are always looking to increase the idol or acquire more idols in pursue for satisfaction. A good example is money. If money is an idol to you, you never get satisfied nor content with the amount you have but instead you’re looking for more money day and night.
- Idols do not profit man
Man will spent her/his life protecting, carrying and searching for idols, quenching the urge they give but the problem is that you will never satisfy this urge and they will never profit you but send you to the grave. Isa 44:9 …the things they delight in do not profit.
- Idols do not give joy and happiness
Instead of idols giving man joy and happiness in life, they give her/him all sorts of problems. You are wealthy but you cannot sleep guiding your worldly riches.
- Demons use idols
Through idols, demonic spirits operate. These spirits from satanic kingdom are passed from the idols to the worshiper. Reason you find someone who worships an idol is possessed by the demon of that idol thus very difficult for him/her to detach from this idol. It is only the power of Jesus Christ which can open the eyes of this man and reveal to him that s/he has been worshiping an idol.
Hope you will see the god or idol in your life.
