N.B this is a direct continuation from Egypt Syria wars in the Bible
Antiochus V, king of Syria, came in the scene and called Greece to come down with him to invade Egypt. Dan 11:14: And in those times there shall many stand up against the king of the south: also the robbers of thy people shall exalt themselves to establish the vision; but they shall fall. ‘Many’ refer to other nations.
To seal up his victory over the Egyptians, Antiochus V told Ptolemy to try the marriage thing again to unite them and bring peace. Antiochus V offered his daughter, Cleopatra, to Ptolemy to be married by his young son as prophesied and he shall give him the daughter of women: corrupting her Daniel 11:17. Antiochus was doing this corruptly. What he wanted was to place his daughter inside the palace of the Egyptians (Ptolemy) to act as a spy.
The son of Ptolemy grew up and Cleopatra fall in love with him. Cleopatra refused to help his dad in spying Egypt as prophesied ‘but she shall not stand on his side, neither be for him’ Dan 11:17. This made Antiochus so mad with his daughter because she did not carry the plan.
Therefore, Antiochus turned his eyes to the isles to avenge his anger and capture them as prophesied ‘after this shall he turn his face unto the isles, and shall take many (Dan 11:18). Isles refer to the Greek islands. As he went to conquer the Greeks, little did he know that a new brutal empire was emerging; The Roman Empire. He met with the Romans and he was stopped from attacking the Greeks as prophesied but a prince for his own behalf shall cause the reproach offered by him to cease (Dan 11:18).
So he turned his face into his own land as prophesied …without his own reproach he shall cause it to turn upon him. Then he shall turn his face toward the fort of his own land: but he shall stumble and fall, and not be found (Dan 11:18-19). And inside one of his daughter’s temples, he fall down and died.
In 187 B.C another Antiochus came on the scene and sent tax collectors within the Syria Empire to collect taxes as prophesied …then shall stand up in his estate a raiser of taxes in the glory of the kingdom (Dan 11:20). Syria people became mad with him and he was poisoned and died as prophesied …but within few days he shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in battle (Dan 11:20).
All this prophetic fulfilled history up to this point was and is setting up the stage for two important people in the world history…(to be continued).
