Bible study preparation before impacting in a bible study is crucial and essential. Many people do not prepare to study the bible because the do not know how to do it and the reasons behind it.
Bible study preparation steps
- Get a Bible you can understand. There are so many bible translations but only very few stick to the original text as inspired by God himself. I advise people to go for the accurate Bible.
- A journal or notebook:- to note down
- A Bible Dictionary
- A quiet place. Find a quiet place where you have a place to read and take notes.
- Get rid of all distractions. Unless you’re studying in group. This is alone time between you and God.
- An open mind and a teachable heart
(And if possible)
- A Concordance – a book that lists the words in the Bible and will give you their basic meanings and root meanings as well as other places the words are used.
(You also need)
- Commentaries on the passages / books you are studying. Many commentaries can be found on the Internet on Christian websites like this site. I prefer the Matthew Henry’s commentary. If you have the electronic King James Bible version click on it’s dictionary and you will see Matthew Henry’s commentary.
NB: Do not take what someone else, be it a bible expert says about a topic, except as a guide. Be especially careful because the authors’ beliefs may contradict Scripture. Let the Bible be your truth and inspiration. The best guide is here where you are.
- Pray
Before you start your study you must pray. You allow the Holy Spirit to take over your body, thoughts and mind and He will definitely do it only if you’re born-again. He connects you to Jesus Christ and as you read each word in the Bible, Christ revels Himself and teaches you.
Have a wonderful Bible study preparation.
God bless
